Anecdote:
An
incident of the childhood of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani
Sheikh
Abdul Qadir Jilani left for Baghdad with a caravan for higher education at the
age of fourteen. The mother placed forty golden coins in his bag for safety and
to come to work when needed.
Unfortunately,
there was a robbery on the way. The robbers snatched the item with great
cruelty. The robbers asked you, “What do you have?” You said forty
nobles, dacoits, understand that you have made fun of us.
So
they took you to their chief and told him the story. The chief asked you the
same thing and you gave him the same answer. He said, “Well, show me where
those forty nobles are.”
You
took out the bag and put it in front of them. The robbers were shocked. The chief
said, “O boy, why did you reveal such a hidden thing which could not reach
us despite a thousand attempts?”
You
replied that I was going to Baghdad for education. These nobles were kept in my
lap by my mother for the expenses of the journey, but at the same time, she
insisted that I always tell the truth.
Your
words had such an effect on the hearts of the robbers that they immediately
repented of the robbery and became pious. They even left the ranks of thieves
and robbers and became friends of Allah.

He
was born on March 17, 1078, AH, in the western city of Gilan, Kermanshah
Province, Iran. Which is also called Gilan and that is why another name of
yours is also derived from Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani.
Parenting
and education:
After
your father’s death, you were raised by your mother and your grandfather.
Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani’s genealogy goes back to Imam Hassan from his father
and Imam Hussain from his mother and thus his lineage goes back to Hazrat Mohammad
(PBUH).
At
the age of 18, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani travelled to Baghdad to acquire
knowledge. Where you have teachers like Abu Sayyid Ali Mukhrami in the field of
Islamic jurisprudence, Abu Bakr bin Muzaffar in the field of Hadith and Abu
Muhammad Ja’far in the field of commentary (exegesis of the Holy Quran,
exegetical writing.)
After
acquiring knowledge, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani left the city of Baghdad and
spent 25 years in the deserts and forests of Iraq. In 1127 AD, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani resided
in Baghdad and began teaching.
Soon
your fame spread to Baghdad and then far and wide. For 40 years he took an
active part in the preaching of Islam. As a result, thousands converted to
Islam. He started sending distant delegations to further expand the preaching
process.
Sheikh
Abdul Qadir Jilani himself travelled far-flung to preach Islam and travelled to
the subcontinent and also settled in Multan (Pakistan).

or tomb of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani is in Baghdad, Iraq.
پرورش وتحصیلِ علم
آپ کے والد کے انتقال کے بعد ،آپ کی پرورش آپ کی والدہ اور آپ کے نانا نے کی۔ شیخ عبدالقادر جیلانی کا شجرہء نسب والد کی طرف سے حضرت امام حسن اور والدہ کی طرف سے حضرت امام حسین سے ملتا ہے اور یوں آپ کا شجرہء نسب حضرت محمدصلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ وسلم سے جا ملتا ہے۔
تحصیل ِ علم کے بعد شیخ عبدالقادر جیلانی رضی اللہ عنہ نے بغدادشہر کو چھوڑا اور عراق کے صحراؤں اور جنگلوں میں 25 سال تک سخت عبادت و ریاضت کی۔
۱۱۲۷ء میں آپ نے دوبارہ بغداد میں سکونت اختیار کی اور درس و تدریس کا سلسلہ شروع کیا۔
