Summary of Quran Chapter Surah Kahf 18 The Cave

Hafiz Ibn Jarir Tabari has narrated from Hazrat Abdullah
bin Abbas that some of the chiefs of Makkah sent two men to  Madinah to the scholars of the Torah and the
Gospel to find out that, What the Jewish scholars say about the Prophet
Muhammad’s claim to prophethood?

The Jewish scholars asked them to ask the Prophet
Muhammad three questions. If he answers them, it must be understood that he is
indeed a prophet of God, and if he cannot answer correctly, it will mean that
his claim of prophethood is incorrect. The first question was that to describe
the strange incident of those young men who once went out of their city to hide
in a cave to avoid shirk. The second is to tell us about the story of a man who
traveled all over the world from east to west.

Third, ask them what the truth of the Spirit is. So the
two men returned to Makkah, and together with the people of their community,
they asked the Prophet Muhammad these three questions. The answer to the third
question has already been given in the previous surah [17: 85 (see at the end
of this article)]. And in answer to the first two questions, this Surah was
revealed, in which the incident of the youths hiding in the cave is described
in detail. They are called the Companions of the Cave. ۔
(KAHF) In Arabic, the cave is called: The Companions of the Cave.

In answer to the second question, at the end of the
surah, the incident of Zul-Qarnayn is narrated, who traveled east and west. In
addition, the same Surah also narrates the incident of Prophet Moses (peace be
upon him) in which he visited Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) and traveled
with him for some time. These three events are the main theme of this Surah. In
addition, the Christians who have declared Jesus (PBUH) to be the Son of God
are especially refuted in this Surah, and threats have also been made to those
who deny the truth. And good tidings have been given to those who believe in
the truth.

Many hadiths and virtues of reciting Surah Al-Kahf have
been mentioned in the hadiths, especially on Fridays, it has become a great
virtue to recite this surah, And that is why it has been the custom of the
religious leaders to make special arrangements for the recitation of this Surah
on Fridays.

Abu Darda’
reported Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: If anyone learns by
heart the first ten verses of the Surat Al-Kahf, he will be protected from the
Dajjal.

(Sahih Muslim
Book 004, Hadith 1766).

Abu Sa’id
al-Khudri reports that the Prophet SAW said: “Whoever recites Surat Al-Kahf on
Jumu’ah will have illumination from the light from one Jumu’ah to the next.”

al-Baihaqi, and al-Hakim)
